Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness
Established in 1978, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) has changed little since the glaciers melted. With over 1,500 miles of canoe routes, nearly 2,200 designated campsites, and more than 1,000 lakes and streams waiting, the BWCAW draws thousands of visitors each year. The BWCAW is part of the Superior National Forest. Permits are required year-round for day and overnight visitors to the BWCAW. Permits are required for day and overnight visitors to the BWCAW. Lester-Amity Trail
Explore our 18.0 km trackset and 18.0 km skate-ski. You will find mostly intermediate level trails and hilly terrain covered with aspen, birch and pine between Lester River and Amity Creek. 4.8km of trail is lighted for night skiing. Optional expert loops and maps along the trail are also on site. Ski pass is required. Located in Duluth E on East Superior Street, then 1 block N on Lester River Rd to parking lot. Magney - Snively Trail
15.3 km trackset that is mostly intermediate level trails. The Trail runs through northern hardwood forest with a scenic overlook of the St. Louis River valley. Ski rental is available at nearby Spirit Mountain downhill ski area. Maps can be found along the trail and a ski pass is required. Located in Duluth, I-35 at Spirit Mountain exit.
