Banadad Ski Trail System
The Banadad is the Longest groomed trail (29 km.) in BWCAW. From the eastern trailhead in addition to the Banadad, skiers can access the Lace Lake (5 km.) the Sepalla (1.5 km.) ski trails and 6 km of snowshoe trails. Ski passes are sold at the trailhead. You will find mostly intermediate level trails (50%), with 25% advanced and 25% beginner. Numerous scenic views and overlooks while skiing thru the Superior National Forest. System links with the Upper Gunflint System via the Banadad Trail System. Snowshoe trails are also available that are lantern lit or twinkle lit trails every night! Grand Portage National Monument
This is a partially reconstructed North West Company Fur Trade headquarters and 8.5 mile Grand Portage route; Costumed interpreters, guided programs/demonstrations, Three Sisters garden, historic heirloom variety gardens, furnished structures, Ojibwa Culture, fur trade history, area history; historical craft demonstrations/sales, cooking and baking demonstrations; historical musket demonstrations; ferry service to Isle Royale Nat'l Park operates from the site from mid-June through Labor Day. Gunflint Lodge (Dogsled Trips, Horseback Rides)
Offering half hour, 1-hour, and 2-hour dog sled trips through the Laurentian Highlands of NE Minnesota. Experienced mushers take 1 or 2 people on thrilling rides through the woods and over frozen lakes. The Stable offers 1 & 2 hour horseback rides, dinner or breakfast rides, and all day rides in the upper Gunflint Trail area. Experienced wranglers lead all trips. Gunflint Trail Scenic Byway
Visit the birding site where you will see the Black-backed Woodpecker or Boreal Owl, found only here. The trail is actually a road -- County Road 12 -- which wanders north from Lake Superior for about 50 miles. Other species to watch out for include Spruce Grouse, Northern Saw-whet Owl and Boreal Chickadee. This 57-mile Scenic Byway runs from Grand Marais to Saganaga Lake.
