American Swedish Institute
Explore the museum of Swedish-American arts, culture and history. Founded in 1929 by Swedish immigrant newspaper publisher Swan Turnblad, the museum is housed within the 1904 former Turnblad mansion - a 33-room castle with turrets, gargoyles, hand carved woodwork, and 11 porcelain tile stoves from Sweden. Milwaukee Road employees referred to the Minnehaha Depot as the "Princess" because of its delicate gingerbread canopy. This is a new water park featuring three large water slides, to include a tube slide. Enjoy the 19.0 km trackset or 8.0 km skate-ski. You will find mostly intermediate level trails. Located in Minneapolis and Golden Valley, between US Hwy 12 and Golden Valley Rd on Wirth Pkwy. The trail runs through open parkland and woods, adjacent to downhill ski area. Lighted trails are available at night as well as a fireplace at the chalet.
