Visiting Minnesota

Minnesota's twin cities, St Paul and Minneapolis lure visitors for fun filled getaways, business and state government. St Paul, the state capital, and Minneapolis, less than 20 minutes away together form the exciting Twin Cities Metroplex. Travelers enjoy the urban excitement of world class restaurants, shopping and events. Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy the proximity to lakes and forests as well as extensive park systems and the Mississippi, Minnesota and St Croix rivers that run through the cities. After the 2010 winter, residents and visitors are anxious for warm weather, and ready to kick off spring and summer.

Minneapolis hosts May Day 2010 on Sunday May 2nd. The celebration features a parade, ceremony and festival. Minneapolis' In the Heart of the Beast Theater sponsors the event beginning in April with weekly workshops with artists and volunteers creating giant puppets for the parade and ceremony. Join the parade and celebration that honors the rebirth of spring and warm weather at Powderhorn Park. Bring the family for a fun day of music, dancing, food, canoe rides and performances in the park and get excited for the summer.

The 8th Annual Minneapolis-St Paul International Film Festival 2010, is held the last half of April. The largest film event in the region, the festival brings cutting-edge film to local audiences. Films from across the globe are featured in categories from features and documentary to international. Film buffs, this is an opportunity to see the latest films in an intelligent environment, see local movies and hear filmmakers discuss their art.

Active Minnesotans can test their winter exercise regime in a variety of warm weather activities. The 2010 Midwest Bicycle Festival, formerly the Minnesota Bicycle Festival, will be June 11th through 20th in various Minnesota cities and Menomonie Wisconsin. The Nature Valley Grand Prix, one of the featured events is a top three US professional stage race. Other events include velodrome racing and road racing. Join racers and fans from across the globe for the races or fun events including stunt rider demonstrations, live music, food and fun. Come cheer on your favorite competitor or just join in the festivities.

Runners events for everyone are held through the summer and fall. Twin Cities in Motion is organizing the 6th Annual Medtronic One Mile for the evening of May 13th. Test your fitness at a premier road mile, join an official cheer zone to encourage your racer or join a corporate team with co-workers. The Kids Outdoor Cross Country Run, Saturday May 15th, will be held at Como Park. This event encourages all ages and abilities with a half-mile, mile, or two mile fun-run. Bring the family and spend the day at the Zoo, Conservatory, Como Town or other St Paul attractions.
